The Walkmen are one of those bands that you just have to love. They make amazingly beautiful music, with great melodies, a distinctive voice and masterfully produced albums. Two years after their last work You & Me they are back with their 5th studio album titled Lisbon, which will be coming out in the U.K. on October 11th on Bella Union Records and on September 14th in the U.S. on Fat Possum Records. We've got our hands on an early version of the album and though of sharing our thoughts with you. If again you don't trust our word, then take a peek listen yourself to their track Stranded by downloading it below.

I admit that I've only given the record 2-3 full listens so far but my first reactions are quite positive. They start of from solid ground, right where You & Me left off. Lisbon is filled with melodic tracks that beg to explode, which in most cases they rightfully do. Juveniles sets things off with a summer folk base track, giving an uplifting rhythm to the album. This is lifted even higher with Angela Surf City and its surf rock riffs. Next tracks are a bit more on the folk side before mellowing down with the beautiful horns on Stranded, a track that highlights the bands ability to write rich melodies that beg to be loved. Victory and Woe is Me quickly bring the tempo up before Torch Song and While I Shover the Snow give a melodic end to the album. The grand finale is then made with title track Lisbon, which is simply an epic Walkmen ballad. In retrospect, Lisbon leaves you with a sweet serene feeling; it may not be groundbreaking, yet it's so perfectly executed that you can't resist it.
