There is a new trend these past few months for new bands. The less you say the bigger the hype. This is exactly the case for the following two bands that have Pitchfork, Stereogum and the music blogosphere talking and mumbling about them. All that was known for Cults and Guards was their BandCamp sites, where they both offered their debut EPs for free.

Their music is quite similar as well, in the sense that they both have a retro 50's-60's feeling to their songs. Cults are a bit more keen on the retro theme, with cute, lovable cherry pop tunes, while Guards are a bit more on the indie rock/ chillwave side with cool guitar riffs and drums leading the way. And if this wasn't enough to tie in the two bands, Cults are actually featured in one of Guards' song (Sail it Slow). I'll admit that I like Guards over Cults but both are simply amazing. Cults are already signed to Forrest Family, the new label from Gorilla vs. Bear and our favorite Weekly Tape Deck, with a portion of the proceeds from every release donated to a charity benefiting animals (which we fully support). Alternatively, you can download both bands' debuts below for free from their BandCamp pages. These are the debuts of the year along with Grouplove. Enjoy!
